BOTOX MEANING:
Botox and Dysport are a purified protein that we inject to relax the muscles of the face to reduce wrinkles. It blocks the nerve impulses that stimulate these muscles to contract. By doing this, we can smooth and erase the lines that the contraction of muscles can produce.
WHAT ABOUT BOTOX DOWNTIME AND RESULTS
Botox results can take up to two weeks for the full effect to kick in so you must be patient. Dysport kicks in usually within 3-5 days. There is typically little to no downtime with most injectables, but some patients can experience minor swelling of the injection site or bruising after the procedure from the needle. Both subside naturally over the following days.
HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?
The good and bad thing about Botox is that it’s effects are not forever. It is a good thing because if you don’t like the results, the effects will be gone in 3-4 months after the peak at around one month. For most patients however, this is a bad thing as they wish the effects would never fade and they could maintain the youthful look. The effects of Botox can be stretched out if you pay attention to when it begins to wear off for your body. If you come in for new Botox or Dysport injections when the muscle movement is just beginning to come back on your face, you will find that the Botox will last longer. This is because the muscle is already in a weakened state and if you keep it like that, it will take longer for it to get back to normal as long as it is weak. Some patients can go as long as 5 or 6 months if they stay on top of their Botox injections by doing a little at a time! If you allow your Botox to wear off completely, your Botox will again likely last only 3-4 months.

How long your botox lasts depends on the number of units injected, not the volume of injections. If you do not receive enough units of Botox, your Botox will not last as long as it should unfortunately. The number of units injected per area also effects how long the Botox lasts so it's important to follow the advice of your injector instead of trying to save money if you are wanting the botox to last. There are generally agreed amounts of Botox for common areas given by the manufacturer. However, this is frequently modified for our patients on a case-by-case.
