What is Microneedling?
Many of the issues with our skin are from problems in the deeper layers of skin, the dermis. Wrinkles and other signs of aging, brown spots, scars, and stretch marks arise from these deeper layers. The outer layer of our skin, the epidermis, is a physical and chemical barrier to protect the deeper layer. Unfortunately, many of the topical treatments and skin treatments we use never make it to the deeper skin layers where they are needed to make a big impact. To help the topical treatments work better, we recommend derma planing, but to get to the issues found deeper (wrinkles, brown spots, scars and stretch marks), we have to do thinks that reach the deeper layer like chemical peels, laser resurfacing, IPL photofacials and some topical products. However, all of these treatments have some discomfort, risk, and prolonged downtime. Plus, many are just not very effective at getting through the epidermis.
Microneedling uses 12 surgical grade needles to create small micro channels in the skin. After application of a topical numbing cream, the microneedling device will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding until the entire treatment area has been covered, ususally the face and/or neck but it can be anywhere. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire area. These tiny injuries to the skin have several purposes. The first is to make small pathways for topical gels, creams and serums to penetrate to the deeper skin layers. This allows us to precisely target the dermis where the problems we are trying to treat are found. The second is, the small injuries caused by the needles have been found to stimulate collagen formation. Collagen is the building block of the skin and this leads to skin tightening and smoothing of wrinkles. It's the one of the most natural ways to maintain your youth and improve skin texture.
What is the advantage of the Microneedling over other treatments?
Microneedling leaves the epidermis and its barrier function intact. This avoids a lot of downtime. Also there are no heat-induced side effects of laser and light based treatments. The needle penetration to the skin allow direct delivery of topical agents to the dermis and dermal remodeling due to mechanical stimulation. Healing from the treatment is very rapid and there is very little risk of scarring. It is safe for all skin types.
What are the Microneedling Benefits?
The tiny microchannels created by the needles gives us direct access to the dermis, we are able to do a great deal of work on the area of the skin that needs it the most! We can apply topical anti-aging, skin lightening (melasma) and wound healing solutions before, during and after the treatment. Some of our favorites are hyaluronic acid or an Epidermal Growth Factor Mask. The topical products do not get stopped by the epidermis, but directly infiltrate into the dermis where the problems reside. Also, the mechanical stimulation of the dermis itself by the needles, causes remodeling of collagen. This is called collagen induction therapy. Collagen is the building block of skin. Damaged collagen causes aging and scars. Acne scars and wrinkles can now be treated effectively in office with little to no downtime.
Forehead Wrinkles Treatment
Microneedling can also be combined with other procedures like the Microneedling Epidermal Growth Factor, chemical peels, and facials. It can be used anywhere on the body.
When will I see Microneedling Results?
The microneedling results may take 2-6 weeks because your skin will need to heal and collagen needs time to grown. It is recommended that microneedling be repeated at 6-8 week intervals until you've reached your best result and then reported 6-12 months for best results.
You have probably seen the GloPro microneedling or derma rollers for at home use. Do they work? Yes and no. They do penetrate the skin to have some effects, but unfortunately not enough to reach the dermis where all the real damage is. Only medical grade microneedling will do this which is what we offer at BEAUTIFY. Remember, the great effects of microneedling depend on reaching the deep layers of the skin and to do that safely, you need a medical provider. Unfortunately, microneedling at homedevices can’t do this. Dermarollers rip and tare the skin, and can leave permanent scars and serious infections.
Microneedling for Scars
Scars reside in the deeper layers of our skin (dermis/epidermis). This is why they are so long lasting and hard to treat with topical remedies. Microneedling gives us an easy way to access these deeper layers of the skin. The channels created by the needles stimulate collagen growth and repair and which leads to softening of the scars.
Microneedling for Stretch Marks
Like scars, stretch marks are tears in collagen. They are found in the deeper layers of the skin. Microneedling is ideal to reach the stretch marks and help to reduce them. Also like scars, stretch marks will require multiple micro needling sessions.
