HOW DO BOTOX AND DERMAL WORK TOGETHER?

Many people are aware of Botox and Juvederm OR Restylane but they are not quite sure what they do.  Questions like: Do they work together? Do I need both of them?  Why do you think I need both Fillers and Botox?

Botox Injections and Dysport Injections

Botox is a purified protein from a molecule that we inject to help relax the muscles of facial expression that cause wrinkles.  It can't add volume to the face and it doesn’t do anything for the skin surface.  But to help diminish and prevent wrinkles on the face caused by facial muscles, there is nothing else like Botox or Dysport.  There is no other way to relax frown lines, forehead creases or Crow’s feet better than with Botox injections.

JUVEDERM INJECTIONS AND RESTYLANE INJECTIONS

Juvederm and Restylane are dermal fillers consisting of a natural building block of skin found in joints.  Its job is to add volume where it has been lost and to soften deep wrinkles but it does nothing to relax muscles or help the skin surface.  Juvederm and Restylane offer a safer, easier and cheaper alternative to surgical options like implants, fat transfer and surgery when facial volume is needed.

Are Botox and Juvederm The Same?

No.  Botox is used to relax muscles that cause wrinkles and Juvederm is to add volume to the face.  They cannot replace each other’s effects unfortunately.

Do Botox and Juvederm work together for me?

Yes! Frequently, you need both relaxation of facial muscles as well as volume restoration.  If we have very deep frown lines, Botox/Dysport is great to relax the frown muscles and soften the lines. These deep lines will never go away unless a dermal filler like Juvederm or Restylane is used to fill them.  Once properly filled and with regular Botox use, these frown lines will be much less for most people!  This is when Botox and Fillers are important!

Will I always need both Botox and Juvederm?

No.  Sometimes you just have some wrinkles that need Botox to help relax and your facial volume is fine.  Sometimes you want to plump your lips and only Juvederm is needed but no botox.  You don’t have to use both every time we see you.

What else do I need besides Botox Juvederm?

As we mentioned before, Botox and Juvederm really do not do much for the skin surface itself.  This is when products and procedures designed to stimulate collagen production and help with the skin surface are needed. In fact, usually when you stimulate collagen, the skin becomes more supple and elastic and Botox Juvederm will work better and last longer!  Some popular collagen stimulation procedures include MicroNeedling, medical grade chemical peels, and products like retinoids.
